If you take a walk on the beach, you're very likely to encounter lots of evidence that the ocean is just teeming with life, death, and the most bizarre and fascinating things. It's no secret that the mysterious water bodies hold some of the greatest untold secrets known, or unknown, to man. With the billions of creatures hidden down there and the hundreds of phenomena we have never even seen before, this is the mystery of the ocean, and today, we're going to be looking at 10 strange things that have washed onshore. 1 HAIRY MONSTER
In February 2017, A six-meter-long "hairy" sea creature suddenly washed up on the shore of Dinagat Island in the Philippines and people started to question what the horrid-looking hairy creature was. An unidentified creature like this is often known as a "globster" and they've been washing up for years. While some people think it might be new species, experts aren't convinced. The carcass was about six meters long, but that was obviously not the whole carcass - the carcass did not have a tail anywhere in sight so it would have been way bigger than that. That would suggest that it was probably a whale but then again, whales do not have that much hair. Perhaps it was just an accumulation of Lady Gaga’s hairpieces discarded down the drains through the years. We told her, man, we really did tell her. Anyway, as the Gobsmacked locals rushed to take selfies with the 20-foot creature after it appeared on the beach, scientists were more interested in identifying it. Weighing approximately 4,400 pounds, it was believed to have turned white due to decomposition. With further investigation, they determined that it died 2 weeks before washing ashore following a 6.5 Magnitude earthquake. They later concluded that it was a whale but the abnormal hair on it was never completely explainable.
2 DEEP-SEA OARFISH
On August 8, one day before a magnitude 6.6 earthquake hit Luzon Island in the Philippines, two oarfish, one 12-feet-long and the other 14-feet-long, washed up on a beach on another island. Surprisingly, they appeared to be in relatively good health and the larger one was a female. Oarfish are thought to frequent depths around 3,300 feet and are rarely ever found close to the shore or even the surface of the water. Seeing them wash up on the shore and still in good condition shocked many scientists as oarfish discoveries on the surface caused observers and scientists to seek to understand why. They would get the rare opportunity to take a closer look at the elusive fish's biology. Because oarfish live in ocean depths, there is much about their anatomy and behavior that is unknown. Teams of scientists would always jump at the chance to study the animal's skeleton, muscles, feeding structures, and reproductive system — which included 7-foot-long ovaries. 3 BLUE SAILORS
In 2014, beachgoers on the western coast of the United States were confronted by millions of squishy blue animals resembling jellyfish — but each was topped with a rigid structure resembling a sail. From Washington to Oregon, their beaches were absolutely blanketed with the strange, sapphire-blue creatures. Long after many wondered what these delicate beasts were, they were identified as Velella velellas—also known as “by-the-wind sailors”—who were blown ashore by very strong westerly winds. Each of these tiny organisms that are called "by-the-wind sailors," measured about 2.75 inches (7 centimeters) in length and they typically inhabit the open ocean, preferring warm waters in locations around the world. But every few years, storm activity can sweep them toward coastal regions, where they pile up on beaches in enormous quantities — in 2009 or 2010, dead and dying sailors accumulated on a California beach to a depth of several feet. While the Velellas were beautiful to look at, they gave off a strong fishy smell as they started to decay, Like jellyfish, they do have the capacity to sting their prey, but humans typically do not feel the effect. Still, people were advised not to touch them with their eyes. I wonder what weirdo that would even think of that in the first place but hey, it’s a strange, strange world.
4 GIANT SQUID
Remember Zeus in “Clash of the Titans” saying “Release The Kraken?” Yeah well, it seemed like someone released a real-life Kraken in June 2020. Beachgoers in South Africa were alarmed by a 13.7- foot-long, deep-sea dweller that washed ashore on a beach along Britannia Bay. It was discovered to be a Giant Squid, making the find even rarer.
